Semiya Upma

      Semiya upma can be prepared very quickly and is a great option for dinner or breakfast. I like semiya upma more than the rava or rice upma that we usually make. It tastes so good and does not need any accompaniment. But if you prefer you can have it with coconut chutney or simply with some sugar.    
   
Semiya Upma

    Ingredients: Serve -2  
  • Semiya -1 glass 
  • Onions-1
  • Green chilli-3
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Mustard seeds-1/2tspn
  • Urad dhal- 1tspn
  • Channa dhal-1 tsp
  • Cashews-6
  • Ghee-2tspn
  • Water – 2 glass
  • Salt- 1tspn (adjust to taste)

Method:   
  1. In a pan, add ½ tspn ghee, roast the semiya until its color changes slightly brownish and immediately transfer into the plate.(figure 1 & 2)
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds wait for crackle and then add Channa, Urad dhal, cashews,green chillies,curry leaf. Saute for 2 more minutes(figure 3)
  3. Add onions,salt,turmeric powder and saute for 3 more minutes. (figure 4) 
  4. Pour 2 glass of water,close with a lid and bring it to a boil until onions cooked.(figure 5 & 6) 
  5. Add the roasted semiya and mix well.(figure 7 ) 
  6. Now again close with a lid and put the flame in simmer and leave it for 5-7 minute(figure 8) 
  7. After 5-7min open the lid and switch of the flame(figure 9)  
  8. Finally transfer into serving plates. 
Additional Tips:- 
  • After adding water, boil the water well until onions become soft you can test by taking it out.
  •  Roast Semiya and nuts  in good texture, while eating Upma it will be good taste.
