Semiya payasam

Semiya Payasam is my favorite all time desert. It tastes excellent when served hot. Though there are several varieties of payasam based on the ingredients used, my first choice will be simple semiya payasam since it  takes just 20 min’s to prepare..

  • Ghee – 3 tspn
  • Semiya – 1 glass (small)
  • milk -  3 glass (measured with same glass)
  • Sugar – ½ glass or  Milkmaid – 1/4 glass

Method:

  1.  In a pan, add ½ tspn ghee and roast the semiya until its color changes slightly brownish.(figure 1)
  2.  Take a bowl, boil the milk and add above roasted semiya. Reduce the flame to medium and stir well until semiya is half boiled.(figure 2 & 3)
  3.  While waiting for the semiya to get half cooked, in the mean time on other stove take a pan, heat 2 tspn ghee and roast the nuts till its color gets changes to golden brown. Switch of the flame.(figure 4)
  4.  After semiya is half boiled add the above roasted nuts, stir well and wait for the semiya to get cooked completely. (figure 5)
  5.  Add half cup sugar and stir well. Instead of sugar you can also add milkmaid –1/4 cup it will make your payasam more tasty.(figure 6)
  6.  Add the crushed cardamom and keep stirring. Cook further 2-3 minutes and then switch off the flame.(figure 7 & 8)
Yes!! our Semiya Payasam is now ready to serve :)
Additional Tips:-
  • Roast semiya in good color otherwise your payasam texture will spoil
  • Roast nuts in golden color it will get good taste
  • Always cook in medium flame only.
