Ven Pongal


Pongal is a very popular south Indian dish made with rice. There are various varieties of pongal like sakarai pongal (made with sugar/jaggery or sometimes with both sugar and jaggery) and ven pongal made with spices. Today lets see how to make ven pongal which is very easy and can be make in just 15 minutes. When it is served hot along with sambar or coconut chutney their combo taste will be awesome.
Ven Pongal
Ingredients: Serve -2
  • Rice - 1/2 glass
  • Moong Dhal - 1/2 glass
  • Water - 2 & 1/2 glass (use the glass used for measuring rice)
  • Ginger - small piece
  • Cumin seeds - 1tspn
  • Pepper - 1tspn
  • Kaju - 5
  • Ghee - 5tspn
  • Oil - 2tspn
  • Salt - 1tspn
  • Curry leaf - as required

Method:
  1. Take a cooker add rice, moong dhal and wash well. (figure 1)
  2. Add 2 & 1/2 glass water, salt and cook for 2 vessels.(figure 2 & 3)
  3. Take a pan, heat oil & ghee add pepper, cumin seeds, ginger pieces, kaju, curry leaf and saute until it gets cooked and transfer into the pongal. (figure 4 & 5)
  4. Serve in plate with sambar / chutney / pickle. (figure 6)
Simple and easy pongal is ready to serve !

Additonal Tips:-
  • In step 1, for better measurement you can take a glass fill 1/2 with rice and remaining 1/2 with moong dhal.
  • In step 2 , after cooking if pongal mixture is tight then add little water and mix well.
