Raw Banana Curry

Raw Banana Curry is a simple South Indian recipe which is best enjoyed with plain rice or chapatis. Raw Banana is a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Raw Banana Curry
Ingredients: Serve - 2
  • Raw banana – 2
  • Onion – 2 (big size)
  • Tomato- 2 (medium size)
  • Green chili  - 3
  • Ginger- Garlic paste – 1/2tspn
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2tspn
  • Urad dhal – 1/2tspn
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2tspn
  • Curry leaves – as required
  • Red chili powder – 1/2tspn(adjust to taste)
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4tspn
  • Coriander powder – 1/4tspn
  • Salt – 1 & 1/2 tspn (adjust to taste)
  • Water – ½ glass
  • Coriander leaves - as required

Method:
  1. Remove the skin and cut the raw banana as small pieces and transfer into bowl. Add 1/2 tspn salt & water to cover the banana pieces and keep aside. (figure 1)
  2. Take a pan, heat oil in medium flame, add mustard seeds and wait for crackle then add urad dhal,cumin seeds; saute for 1 minute. (figure 2)
  3. Add green chili paste, onions, 1 tspn salt, curry leaf and continue sauteing until onions become soft. (figure 3)
  4. Add tomatoes and saute until tomatoes are mashed. (figure 4)
  5. Add raw banana pieces saute for 2 minutes and then add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder continue sauteing for 3 minutes. (figure 5 & 6)
  6. Now add water and mix well. Close with lid and cook until raw banana gets cooked. Approximately 5- 8 minutes.(figure 7 & 8)
  7. After raw banana is cooked, open the lid and cook until curry gets thicker.
  8. Serve in a bowl. (figure 9)
Raw Banana Curry is ready to serve !

Additional Tips:-
  • In step1, apply oil for hands and cut the bananas. So that our hands won’t turns in black color.
